  1. I used iFinger to look up these words.
Rural: what the country or the country life characterize
Urban: a constituting of a city or a town
  2. In Norway, the main difference between rural and urban areas is:
  • Rural: Farms, hayfields, long distences between each house and a typical "everyone knows everyone" society.
  • Urban: Places were bigger amounts of people are living, apartments, stores and universities. Places which is more affected of people in general.

In India, the main difference between rural and urban areas is:
  • Rural: 70% of India's inhabitants are living in the rural areas, these people are often poor and live in a low caste.
  • Urban: the people who are born into a richer family with a higher caste is lucky to be living in the more developed areas of the country.

The societies in the rural and urban places in India is very separated when it comes to for example economy.
3.       It's a very sensational statement, and it makes me think that we have to change something in the way we live. Everything that goes to waste and that we trash could help another person such as clothes and furniture.
4.      Maybe the feeling of "saving" the world is a reason for this. Plus, it has become very popular to eat natural and healthy, but it's very difficult because of all the preservatives that's added to the food these days.
5.      1. Don't waste your time on people you don't enjoy the company of, life's to short.

 3. Be yourself.
 4. Eat whatever you want, just make sure the food doesn't destroy the different opportunities              you have in life.

The Immitation Game

1. Give a description of Alan Turing. What were his weaknesses and what was his strength.

The main character in the movie, Alan Turing was an extremley intelligent and smart person at a young age. But on the other hand he seemed very unsocial in the way he acted for example at the bar with his colleagues. I think the reason behind his behaviour is that he is insecure on both other people and himself, because he is gay.
So as a conclusion I will say that his biggest weakness is in general to be social with other people and read feelings. His biggest strength is intelligence, he could sit hours after hours and work at one single project.

The technology today

In this text I’m going to write about the developing of the technology in the society. I’m mainly going to work around the quote “Modern digital technology is a blessing and the only way forward” Is this true? Is it a way back? Are the society developing too quick? I’m going to give my opinion around this as well as include information about it.

Firstly, the fact that technology are developing quick in our society, causes both good and bad values in our everyday-life. To look at the positive side first, it’s getting easier and easier to live our lives, we have the opportunity to buy a dress for the weekend in the lunch break at work without even leaving the office. If we are wondering about something, we can look it up at the internet in a few seconds almost no matter where we are. We can order food at home, that someone make and drive to our doorstep, the possibilities are endless.
Even though the life are getting easier to live, doesn’t mean that it’s affecting us in every positive way possible. This leads us to a lazier life with less activity in the everyday when it comes everyday tasks. But, the technology are not just affecting us, the world have to pay a big prize for this too, we are polluting a lot which break down our earth, piece by piece. Instead of going to a local shop and by the things we need, we drive to a mall, order on the internet and even fly to another city in a different country just to get products cheaper. We are gradually rubbing away the smaller societies and making bigger cities.

If we think about the quote “Modern digital technology is a blessing and the only way forward” as true on the one hand. I think it’s important to think about our future, take different occupations for example, the way of executing the work will may change. Instead of actually doing the work, the workday will consist more of using different devices that do the work for us. On the other hand, the technology are developing very quick these days and I don’t think this will continue for forever. If it did, what are we going to do if the net shuts down sometime? According to that I neither think it is a way back, when a new device have been developed and are out on the market, people buy it and this will be a part of their life. If we suddenly stop producing, it will cause many problems.

Nevertheless, the technology have caused an addiction. If I look around at the mall, on the train, on the bus or at school, I will see people looking at their phone, iPad or pc. Take the phone as an example, this is something you carry around in your pocket all day and almost sleeps by your bed. This were you have all your plans for the week (shopping list, meetings at work, etc.), it’s your way of contacting other people (texting, chatting and calling), it’s were you have all the fun games that you play when you’re bored, you have the handy apps that helps you exercise, cook, etc. and were you play your music. Just think about losing your phone, then you have lost half of your life and the feeling when reach for your phone in your pocket and it isn’t there, can be described as heart attack, I have experienced it.

In conclusion, I don’t think it is a smooth way back and I don’t see myself not looking at a screen throughout an entire day in the future.  So I guess the technology is the only way forward but I do think it will stop or slow down sometime. On the other hand I think the question about the society developing too quick, depends on age. For my generation it’s not a problem to keep up and not for the adults either, but it’s many older people that struggle with the simplest thing like paying a bill because they don’t know how to use a pc.

Disconnect

Today we saw the movie "Disconnect", the main subject is about being dependent of the internet and having contact with strangers (that may not exist) over chatting on the internet. The movie contains multiple happenings that can happen, if you give away your personal information or if you gets in a personal relationship with someone you don't know, in the worst case. It can really be dangerous to be too personal on the internet and its important to be especially careful with pictures, think about it twice befor you press the "publish" or "send" button. Even though you delete the picture is already out there and it will always be. Almost every happening in this movie is lifethreatening for the person it involves. In my opinion, this movie is a real eye-opener.
The elements in the movie are familirar, you hear about tragedies happening where the reason is bullying over the internet, often in the news. This has luckily never happened to someone close to me.
But even though these happening maybe have happened, the film is very dramatic because they have assembled the worst stories together.
I really liked the film, even though it is dramatic, it's still realistic and it makes you think about what you are doing and be more careful. The movie contains three different happenings but you get to know the persons in the story very well so its easy to separate them.
The scene in the movie that made the deepest impression on me was when Ben's sister yells at him to turn down the music, opens his door and sees whats happened.

Global issues

The technology is developing all the time, that can eventually leed to less places of employment. For example the technician will slowly die out. Together with the developing of the technology our lives are getting easier and easier to live. We can shop both groceries, things and clothes while we are stuck in the traffic or waiting on a train. We can easier multitask now, most of us are owning multiple electric devices as phones, tablets, laptops, pc's and TV's.

But the developing isn't just positive, we're sitting more through out the day. Children want to play on their phones or watch TV instead of going outdoor with friends and play. We are using more time inside our houses because we don't necessarly need to for example go out to buy things in the store.

I think this progress is both positive and negative, we have to think about how we use the technology and still try to remain an active everyday.

1. Do you think the colonies had good reason to declare Independence? Why?

  • Yes, if I was a colonist I would definitely declare independence because I would rather pay taxes to my own community than to an other country who actually earn money because we payed them.

2. Should one country be able to colonize another? When should a colony be granted Independence?
  • I don't think a country should be able to colonize another because in every case this has happened the power has been abused. I think that if England had helped people with moving to the US the only fair thing to do would've been to pay them a reasonable sum to thank them. I'm totally against the regime that England and other countries runned.
3. The Bill of Rights guarantees Americans "the right to bear arms". Many Americans still feel this is important for personal safety and in case they need to revolt  against their own government, They argue that the Minutemen and the local militias only won the fight for Independence beacause they had firearms.
What do you think?
Should everyone have the right to bear arms? All kinds of arms?
  • I think that the socitey would be safer if only educated people like the police and the military bear arms and not everyone else. If everyone had the right to bear arms, we're not just giving the right to normal people but also criminals. In my opinion school-massacres are happening way to often in the US and i don't think the number would've been that high if every person had the right to bear arms.
4. If you were to present your nation's history in the same way as above, which events would you choose? Why?
- List the events and write a couple of sentences about them.
  • It was actually a 10 years old boy that drew the Norwegian flag, but his dad is getting the honor of it because it was him that showed the proposal for the government.
  • When the 2. worldwar started, Norway declared to be neutral and not participate in the war. But after a year our got attacked by German troops.

Immigrants

- Why did people leave Europe to go to America in the late 1800s? What was their 'American Dream'?

The Europeans including the Norwegians immigrated to The United States by the promise of free land. Many people were tempted by the opportunity to get a better life. If the immigrants were farming the land, they were granted around 600 acres of soil and a farm much bigger and better than any farm in their native land.
The immigrants “American Dream” was to get a better life by getting a bigger farm with more acres of fertile soil.
The immigration was a result of many push and pull factors.  Some main push factors that drove the immigrants from their country was religious persecution, poverty and political oppression. Some pull factors that attracted the immigrants to the U.S. was civil rights, freedom of expression, religion and a good economic opportunity.

The Irish immigrants were pushed from their country because of a bad potato breeding with an illness.  The potatoes were quite important for the Irish people, therefore many died and some decided to move.

søndag 7. desember 2014

Do people still believe it can be achieved?
Yes, most of them do, but every person that were asked had a different answer to what the amercian dream was and what it meant for them. I think everyone changes the dream to what they think are possible to achieve for themselves.
How has the definition changed?
The definition has changed together with the progress of the economy. Four years ago the economy was more stabilized than what it is now so people have shifted their dream to one that is more based on values and that is more affordable in the situation they live in today.

My own defenition of these words:

  • then, than

Back then, funnier than

  • which, witch

  • there, their, and they're

There - place, their - has to do with people and they're = they are

  • to, too, two
To someone, way too much and two dogs
  • lose, loose
To lose something, a loose screw

"I am not young enough to know everything." by Oscar Wilde
The socitey is always growing, the language is in a constant progress and you have to grow up with all of the changes and differences to know them. We can't keep up with the changes in the society, it is happening to fast.

Road trip in England

My friend Karoline and I have been at a road trip. We went to the UK, which was amazing. We started our trip in Bristol, a city East in England. We hired our beautiful car that we drove through the whole trip.
It matched with colours inside and outside the car.
Bristol was a beautiful city both in day-time and night-time. Luckily for us the weather was great when we stayed there. We slept two nights in the city all together before we started at our real roadtrip.
We found a very nice hotel the first day which we stayed at both nights. It had a SPA which we were really excited about and also tried out the first day. Other than that we explored the city a bit, by walking in the streets. At the evening we ate dinner at the restaurant in the hotel.
The second day we spent in a shopping centre, when we came back to the hotel we did some exercising at the fitness room. We decided to eat dinner at a restaurant this evening. On our way to find an interesting restaurant, we saw the Clifton suspension bridge lighted up. I just had to take a picture:
We ended up at a restaurant called “Glassboat”, and it was literally a restaurant in a boat were every wall was made out of glass. It was so nice.
The third day we both took a SPA treatment at the morning before we packed our suitcases and started driving. We can call this an exclusive start at a roadtrip.
We started driving towards a place called Amesbury, the reason why we chose this place is because of the Stonehnge which we really wanted to see. The driving wasn’t going to smoothly, it was a horrible weather from start to finish and we drove for longer than we needed. The first problem came up when the wind blew up and it started to rain, it rained a lot. We didn’t drive more than around 8 miles before we had to stop because a tree had fallen over the road. We had no idea of what to do, so we waited for a while until we saw that it was a car behind us. A man came towards us and said that he was going to call someone that could help us get the tree out of the way. We thanked him, and about 45 minutes later, the tree got removed and we could continue to drive in the horrible weather. We switched turns at driving, and even though the weather outside the car wasn’t that good, we had a great time inside of the car. At the end this was the route we drove that day:
It didn’t take us 2 hours and 28 minutes but over the double because of the tree-situation and the bad weather we had. When we arrived Amesbury we ordered take-away and slept in the car. The next day were so exciting, we were going to see the Stonehenge. The weather was so much better that day, just some clouds at the sky, otherwise, perfect. Here is a picture of our visit:
We used the most time of that day in the Stonehenge, took a lot of pictures and went for a walk around in the area around the Stonehenge. None of us will forget either the trip the last day or the Stonehenge-visit.
We slept in our car that night as well, before we headed over for London. Driving to London went much smoother than our first stage of the trip. The weather was so much better and we drove virtually straight towards London. This is the route from Amesbury to London:
We arrived in London at 1 pm. The first thing we did was to find a nice hotel were we booked 2 nights. The room was exclusive with two huge beds and a big tub at the bathroom. The view was unique and we could see London eye form our window.
We both took a bath and ate dinner and dessert at the hotel. After the dinner, we went to a cinema and watched a movie called “Dear John”. The movie was very good but sad, we both cried.
The next day was very exciting, we visited London eye and ate macaroons at a nice café in between all of the shopping.
Here is the view we had from the top of the London Eye and the macaroons we shared at the café.
The last day in London we ate breakfast and leaved the hotel quite early because we had a long trip ahead of us to Skegness. Because we wanted to see a bit from the seaside in the UK we decided to drive a detour. The final route ended up like this:
It was a quite long trip, but it was worth it. The east coast in the UK was amazing. The weather wasn’t that good from the start, but after an hour or so it became better.  Outside the car window we could see many people like families, children, adults and old ones. We stopped our car to eat and buy some food for the next days. There was a huge market in Lowestoft, which was more or less halfway from London to Skegness. At the market there was so much to look at, we bought a lot of food and met many nice people. After a good rest, we continued the driving to Skegness. This is one of the beautiful views by the road:
When we finally arrived in Skegness we were both tired. There was a camp where we was supposed to sleep. At the camp we met the owner and he helped us with the caravan we rented for the night. It was a small but cute caravan with enough space for the two of us. Here is a picture from the inside:
We ate some pizza from a snack bar near the camp before we went to sleep.
The next day our plan was to explore the places in Skegness. We had found an amusement park near the camp that we wanted to check out. There was a huge roller coaster we just had to try. It was so much fun and we loved it. Here is a picture we took from the top of the roller coaster:
After a funny day in Skegness, the car was calling and the last part of our road trip was about to start. This time the route was taking us from Skegness to Birmingham and this is how it was planned:
Our plan in Birmingham was to visit the Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park. When we came to our hotel room, we placed the bags there before we went out to eat.  The restaurant was called Golden Dragon and the food was perfect. We ate the best beef I have ever tasted, served with potatoes and some salad. The dessert was even better. Chocolate mousse with cream and strawberry. After that, we took a train to the Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park. In the park we got to see a lot of different animals. It wasn’t the same as a zoo, but we both liked it. Here are a picture collage with some of the animals:
We went back to the hotel and talked about our fantastic road trip together before we felt asleep.
The last day was suddenly there and we had to pack our baggage and say goodbye to the beautiful UK. It was sad, but we both agreed that the trip had been perfect and amazing, we couldn’t wish for anything more.
I really want to thank my good friend Karoline for this funny and memorable road trip.

Task 2

Nazneen hurried out the door, she needed to hurry up before she started to regret her choice about going down to the tattoo lady. She walked down the stairs and slowly across the yard. When Nazneen finally came to the tattoo lady's door, she knocked three times and took a step back to wait for the door to open. The door handle went down and the door get opened, behind it the tattoo lady stood.
- Hello, she said in a way that Nazneen felt uncomfortable.
- Sorry, Nazneen said, this was nearly all the English language she knew. She was about to turn and walk home.
- No, don't go, said the tattoo lady. What are you up to?
- Sorry, Nazneen repeated and backed off.
- Come in, we can talk, you can get a cup of tea, the tattoo lady hoped that this would lead to a good deal and a tattoo.
Nazneen understood that she was invited in when the tattoo lady beckoned her in to the room.
- Thank you, she said and stepped inside. The walls were full of pictures were people had been tattooed.
-Sit down, said the lady and pointed at one of the chairs, then she quickly made to cups of tea.
-What do you want? she continued. Nazneen thanked her for the tea and tasted it. The lady waited for an answer, but wasn't getting any. She repeated the question, but wasn't getting anymore out of the strange woman. Nazneen started to think that to walk down here was a bad idea, therfore she tilted the tea cup bottom up, thanked the lady and ended the conversatoin with:
- Sorry, before she hurried out the door. Nazneen would never dare to visit the tattoo lady again.

Task 1

I chose the quote:
"When you teach your son, you teach your son's son."
 -Quentin Crisp
I think this quote is important because it tells us that the generations continues. Everything you do during the prosess of raising your child will be remembered by he or she if they're old enough. For him or her, you're their rolemodel and they will copy everything you do. The way you teach your child to behave, will most likely be carried through to the next generation of your family.

If you look at this in a really big perspective, you are participating to form the future people wich are going to take care of the world after you.
